Judges 11:1a-Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty warrior but he was the son of a harlot (AMP).
My school friend just couldn’t get past her ‘past.’ She constantly complained about her poor upbringing and how it affected her current life. She blamed every missed opportunity on her parents and their reluctance to have a relationship with her. Since she saw every problem through the eyes of what could not be changed, her future looked dim. Just call me “Black Sheep” she would moan. When someone challenged her stinking thinking, she started to make choices that reflected who she really was, a very smart, talented gal with lots of get-up-and-go. Haven’t we all been stuck there at one time or another?
Judges 11:10- The elders of Gilead replied, “That’s it exactly. We’ve come to you to get you to go with us and fight the Ammonites. You’ll be the head of all of us, all the Gileadites (MSG).
Instead of moaning about the past, great Christians of the Bible and of world history turned their eyes to the future. They moved forward, doing great things for God. Let’s be one of them.
Prayer-God, we are ashamed of hanging onto the black-sheep areas of our lives. We give them to you and we move forward into the future you have planned for us. In Christ’s name. Amen.
