Christ’s Garden

“Finished gardening already?” asked my neighbor.

“As close as I’m going to get.” I replied.

She pointed out a couple of dandelions and a large thistle that took up the far corner of the flower bed.

“They are too hard to reach.” I replied. She made a sort of snorting noise and stomped away. I wondered why she cared so much. After all, it wasn’t her yard and she couldn’t see my weeds from her windows. Then I realized she feared those weeds might spread onto her property.

Weeds have a habit of doing that, just as sin does. If we hold anger and unforgiveness in our hearts, it pours out of us in one way or another.

Jesus must have loved gardens, because he mentioned them so often (Matthew 13:32, Mark 4:32, Luke 13:19).  The Bible doesn’t say that he actually pulled weeds and planted flowers but he gardens in a spiritual way all the time. With our permission He pulls up all that festers in us and makes it possible for us to forgive the most incredible things.

Forgive me for prying but what weed is Jesus tugging on today? Why not give it to him and enjoy the benefits of weed-free living?

Matthew 6:14-15- For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you,but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

"Forgiveness is the fragrance the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it."--Mark Twain

Prayer: Lord, it’s so tempting to hang onto sin you want to erase. Weed us Lord; right now, today so that we, Christ’s garden, glorify you. In Your name. Amen.
