There was a time in his life when everyone raved about his talents. Back then, he was something, really something. He poured everything he had into the lives of others. When people saw the signs of his presence, they sensed the tremendous difference he’d made in their lives.
Suddenly, life as he knew it disappeared; he literally dried up. He was of no use to anyone because energy, passion and enthusiasm left him. He spent many a day in this funk. He struggled to believe that there might be life after this depressing situation.
Then one day, he found himself in a new job, one that suited the strengths and energies that he now had. It was a job no one else could do; a job suited to his particular talents. As usual, he dove in with both feet, and did his best where he was, with what he had.
Is this you? Fear not. God always has a purpose for us no matter our age, talents or abilities. You see, Dear Readers…I’ve just given you the history of the vanilla bean.
The long black vanilla bean pod is split down its middle so that its little flecks of flavor can escape. It simmers in the milk or whatever other liquid the recipe calls for. The pod can’t be used in that way again, but after it dries, even its weakened state, it will nicely scent a tin of sugar that later may be used for biscuits, cakes or cookies.
Are you feeling like a ‘has been’ today? In God’s economy, there is no such thing. He loves and values each of us. Our job or health or other situation might have changed but God has not.
Colossians 1:11-[We pray] that you may be invigorated and strengthened with all power according to the might of His glory, [to exercise] every kind of endurance and patience (perseverance and forbearance) with joy (AMP).
If only we would take stock of who we are in Christ, we would never let life get us down.
Prayer: Lord, today we ask for the courage to forget ourselves and flavor someone else’s life with love, joy and peace. Amen.
