You might say that when Kay Wills Wyma, author of Cleaning House, decided to rid her home of youth entitlement, she took the following verse seriously.

Proverbs 22:6-Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it (KJV).

She began a year long process of teaching her children basic life skills like cleaning, laundry, cooking, manners and more.

The Bible talks about preparing everything from houses to meals. Yes, it also mentions that God sends an angel before us but it doesn’t say they make our beds and cook our macaroni and cheese.

Exodus 23:20- Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared (KJV).

Adults are people who can look after themselves. So I ask you, is your child prepared for real life? Can they feed themselves or clean up after themselves? If not, why not? Are they thirty years old and still living with you because you are the only one who knows how to put a meal on the table or wash a pair of jeans?

Prayer: Lord, show us how to be responsible parents by teaching our children basic life skills so they won’t be a life-long burden on others. Amen.
