Mushy Bottoms

Before you think I’ve gone to meddling, understand that it is not your bottom I am talking about. Surely you know me well enough by now not to presume such a thing. Horrors!

Rather, it is pineapple bottoms I’m after. You see, ethylene gas, which most ripening fruits exude, has to circulate around the sides of the pineapple to create an even ripening. If pineapples sit directly on their base they do not ripen properly. All you get is a mushy bottom and a top that does not ripen.

The very best way to ripen a pineapple is to sit it on its fronds, you know, the green pointy stuff.

Now I am going to get to meddling in your life and mine. Are we sitting on our bottoms waiting for life to improve? How is that working for us? Are we expecting someone else to step up to the plate and take the lumps for us? Are we ignoring the prompting of the Holy Spirit? This approach gets us nothing but mushy bottoms and unripe tops.

God doesn’t usually wait too long for us to smarten up. He takes us by our ears and turns us (or our world) upside down. Some how or other, God will eventually ripen us so that we are of some use in the world.

Oh, I forgot the other part. When we’ve finally ripened from a putty green to a yellow ripe, God then proceeds to peel and slice us by putting us near people who need ripening. Then the whole process starts again.

It is less painful to co-operate. We can start by letting the ethylene gas of the Holy Spirit circulate in our system.

Galatians 3:3-Are you so foolish and so senseless and so silly? Having begun [your new life spiritually] with the [Holy] Spirit, are you now reaching perfection [by dependence] on the flesh (AMP)?

Prayer: Lord, from pineapples to hearts might be a stretch, but not to you. Give us enough gumption to at least stand up on our pointy bits and be ready. Amen.
