Picking Pastors

So you have a bone to pick with your pastor. He isn’t as sweet or as kind or as fine a preacher as you would like. Well, isn’t that just too bad? Or maybe your church is in search mode right now and you are demanding only the perfect guy/gal.

Look for the call of God in your pastor’s life. A pastor is an ordinary person who has had an encounter with God.  Sometimes, pastors ask themselves “What am I doing with these unholy people and that call is what keeps them going."

Pastoring is an awesome blessing and a privilege. However, the leadership responsibilities can be overwhelming. Pastors do not have all the answers and sometimes they hear too much.

Some weeks are especially difficult. Don’t judge him if some Sunday he isn’t smiling. Pastors suffer from insecurities, fear of failure, loneliness, trust issues and temptation just like we do. However, unlike us, they are expected to have perfect families in the midst of it all.

This week, let’s give a little grace to our pastors if for no other reason that we always expect it from him/her…AND God.

Prayer: Lord, we’ve placed standards on our pastors that we would hardly even demand of you. Forgive us. Give us an idea how to thank and bless our Pastors this week. In Christ’s name. Amen.
