Come Along People

We’ve all been occasional caregivers at one time or another. A parent sits up all night with a sick child. A friend stays overnight after you have a minor surgical procedure. It is a tiring though not necessarily a tiresome job.
Caregiving 24 hours a day, seven days a week, well that’s another story. Caregivers willingly give up their own lives to concentrate on their loved one because they want them to have the best treatment possible. Meanwhile their own lives are on hold. They give comfort and care but they don’t get a salary for doing it. They can’t go where they want to or do what they want to do because first thought must always be given to the person in their care.
When my late husband Ron was ill, every now and again someone would come along to sit with him while I went for a short walk. Another would come along and bring a casserole for dinner. These seemingly small gestures mean the world to both patient and care giver.
Somewhere near you, a patient and a caregiver need support. Will you come along?
Luke 10:33-34-But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
Prayer: Lord, help us see beyond our busyness and come along side another. For Christ. Amen.
