Climate change deal struck in Copenhagen

World leaders reached an agreement late today in Copenhagen on goals for monitoring efforts to reduce carbon emissions.

The effort fell short of a treaty originally sought at the conference.

According to the Washington Post, the deal has mechanisms to monitor and verify emissions cuts by developing countries.

The climate targets are far less than the United States and European governments had proposed.
