Lutheran groups combine to raise $3M for Haiti

Five Lutheran organizations, including a key fundraising and financial management organization, joined forces to raise $3 million for Haiti earthquake relief efforts in less than a month.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans said it would match $1 for every $2 donated by members of the Missouri Synod World Relief and Human Care, Lutheran World Relief, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Disaster Response and the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod Committee on Relief.

On Feb. 8, donors helped meet that $3 million goal.

“We thank Thrivent for their generosity in making these matching funds available, and we thank our donors for responding so quickly,” said Hans Springer, associate executive director of fund development for Missouri Synod World Relief and Human Care. “Both Thrivent and our caring supporters are blessings to the suffering people in Haiti.”
