Be Quiet

When I was a child, Dad was hired to drive a truck load of something or other to Montreal. It would be a long overnight haul and so he lay down on the living room couch for a nap.

He didn’t get one, because Mom spent the next two hours crying out, SHHH!   SHHHHH! It didn’t work, for several reasons.

1. SHHH! Is a very loud noise.

2. If Dad really wanted to sleep, he would have gone to a bedroom and shut the door!

3. Children do not heed the word SHHHH!

4. Even the religious leaders couldn’t keep folks from talking!

“What are we going to do with these men?” they asked. “Everyone living in Jerusalem knows they have performed a notable sign, and we cannot deny it.  But to stop this thing from spreading any further among the people, we must warn them to speak no longer to anyone in this name.”

hey called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.  But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges!  As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.” (Acts 4:16-20)
