Bear Danger

Statistically speaking, we should fear dogs, cats and cars more than wild animals. They bite and attack and run us over with more frequency that a wolf, bear or coyote. Does that make me feel safer in the wild? NO! It does, however, make me fearful for my everyday safety.

Anyway, I think those wild camping animals live in subtle ways in our communities. The takers just don’t have such furry coats. Take bears. They want your food out in the wild. The remedy is to keep your food carefully hidden and if a bear shows up, stand up and yell at it.

We can deal with our spiritual bears the same way. Just stand up to them with the Word of God food that we’ve carefully hidden our hearts and yell out scripture. This is guaranteed to get rid of it. After all, we have God’s promise for that.

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. (1 Corinthians 10:13a, NIV)

Prayer – Lord, when bears assail us, help us remember the bear repellent: your Word. Amen.
