Beyond Our Control

How would you like to spend a week or two, nine months pregnant, riding a donkey for 80 miles or so (111 Km) across dangerous dirt paths, with a guy you barely know?

Mary had no choice, because the government demanded a census and everyone had to return to their ancestral home to register. Hmmmm… This might be God’s way of clearly pointing out that Joseph came from King David’s line

At that time the Roman emperor, Augustus, decreed that a census should be taken throughout the Roman Empire.  (This was the first census taken when Quirinius was governor of Syria.) All returned to their own ancestral towns to register for this census.  And because Joseph was a descendant of King David, he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea, David’s ancient home. He traveled there from the village of Nazareth in Galilee. He took with him Mary, his fiancée, who was now obviously pregnant. (Luke 2:1-5, NLT)

We often query the awfulness of the stable, but after a possible birth on the side of the road, Mary probably thought it a palace.

What are your circumstances now? Can you see the hand of God in them?

Prayer – When circumstances are what they are, help us trust you anyway. Amen
