Brain vs Stomach

What happens when we eat or drink too much at the cocktail part, the office event or a massive Christmas spread? Much as we determine not to do that, it happens without warning. For instance this week I dined with a friend at a restaurant that gives out chocolates. She donated hers to me. So I did the unthinkable and ate them!

Too late, I read this comment from the ever wise Hercule Poirot. “One must not so replenish the stomach so that the brain refuses to function.”

By then it was too late for me. My brain was overcome by my stomach.

Here are some recovery hints I’m diving into now.

Eat less. Fast for a day or two. Avoid rich, greasy, fatty foods. Eat crackers or bananas. Peppermint, ginger, green or chamomile tea or plain water may help.

Doesn’t sound like much fun in the midst of Christmas goodies and especially in the midst of free chocolates, but sometimes we have to make choices that are good for us, instead of ones that make us happy.

Let us discern for ourselves what is right; let us learn together what is good. (Job 34:4, NIV)

Prayer- God, give us the common sense to make the right choices for our bodies. Amen.
