Calls as He Sees

The referee made a bad call in one of our son’s hockey games. When questioned on the call, he bellowed out, “I call ‘um as I see ‘um!

We didn’t like his call or his attitude but he was in charge so the game went on.

God is a better referee but he too calls ‘um as he sees ‘um.”

Take Gideon, the coward who was hiding in a wine press to thresh grain.

The angel of the Lord showed himself to Gideon and said to him, “The Lord is with you, O powerful soldier.”(Judges 6:12, NLV)

No one felt less like a soldier than Gideon but the angel of the Lord called him as he saw him. Over time, Gideon learned to walk the way God saw him. Yes, he fought some battles but he kept moving forward in what God had said.

Then the men of Israel said to Gideon, “Rule over us, both you and your son, and your grandson also, for you have set us free from the power of Midian.” But Gideon said to them, “I will not rule over you. And my son will not rule over you. The Lord will rule over you.”(Judges 8:22-23, NLV)

Gideon also remembered where his promise and his strength really came from. We can do no less.

Prayer- Father God your dreams and visions for us are so much smaller than our own. Help us see ourselves as you see us. Amen.
