Chapter One

Galatians 3:1-You crazy Galatians! Did someone put a hex on you? Have you taken leave of your senses? Something crazy has happened, for its obvious that you no longer have the crucified Jesus in clear focus in your lives. His sacrifice on the cross was certainly set before you clearly enough (MSG).

When my hands are busy with mindless tasks, I keep my wandering mind occupied too. To prevent it from going places it should not go; I play Christian music or teaching materials while I peel potatoes or scrub the bathroom. I particularly enjoy our copy of the Bible on tape. The readers have fine cultured voices that make the Word come alive. However, I often find myself listening for the other voice. This one gently intones, “Chapter One”. . . , “Chapter Two”…, and so on, between scriptural segments. That voice is the one constant from beginning to end.

As I scrambled through my to-do-list this week, I seemed to hear in my heart the softly intoned words…Chapter One.  I realized that it had been several days since I had communed with my real Constant, the Lord Jesus Christ.  It isn’t the first time I have foolishly fallen into that trap. Busy calendar pages flip blithely past child raising, work deadlines, holiday seasons and vacations. Through it all, Jesus calls us to make time for Him! No more excuses. My alarm clock is set for tomorrow morning. And yours?

Prayer: Oh Lord God, our time got out of control. Thanks for drawing us to you again. You are Chapter One and Chapter Two and right through to Chapter the End. Amen
