Choosing a Mentor

2 Peter 1:6-7For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith- goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love (NIV).

When I needed a mentor, a woman who would help me be all that God desired for my life, I asked God for help and then took honest inventory. I asked the Holy Spirit for help in my weaknesses. I found some verses that spoke to my difficult area, wrote them out, inserted my name and began to say them aloud every day. Next, I asked God to give me my new mentor’s name. I approached that person and asked her to prayerfully consider this task. We began to meet every few weeks to work thru my three P’s of progress, problems and plans.

My life began to change. When I was willing to stop fighting my problems alone, God provided someone to encourage me along His path for my life. It is much easier to be successful when we are accountable to another person.

Proverbs 16:3– Roll your works upon the Lord (commit and trust them wholly to Him.) He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will and so shall your plans be established and succeed (AMP).

Prayer: Lord, You see the dark parts of our lives. Give us courage to expose our weaknesses to a Godly, trustworthy friend who will point us toward you and your strength to overcome. Amen.
