Did you catch the error? I did because I’m a writer and editor, and always checking out words. However, the gal running the sales display did not. Even shoppers paid no attention. All afternoon, the sign proclaimed “Christmas Socking Stuffers!”
What is a Christmas Socking Stuffer anyway? The stall displayed all kinds of jewelry. I pictured someone opening their gift on December 25, finding a charming necklace inside and then either throwing it at someone or twirling it around and socking someone in the head.
The truth of it is that we do Christmas socking all the time. We sock those who disagree with us. We sock our bank account till it dies. We sock charities that need our help and we sock ourselves with guilt because we can’t keep up with the rigors of the holiday.
Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. (1 John 4:7-8, NIV)
Prayer – Lord, help us stop socking bad stuff to everyone and everything around us, at least for the Christmas season. Amen
