Have you ever lost a special memento, treasure, a piece of jewellery, a keepsake? I thought I’d lost my treasured bookmark, a wire and bead thing that a friend gave me. Had I left it at church or dropped it in the driveway? I searched frantically, and I was tremendously happy when I finally spotted it on the ground near my car.
That search reminded me of how desperately I had longed for God so many years ago, and how grateful and relieved I was when I asked Jesus into my life as my Lord and Saviour
But lately, I’m so busy that I often take Him for granted. I never seem to have enough time to pray or even read my Bible regularly.
When I asked if my heart had grown cold, the answer shamed me. I wasn’t sure how to find that same fellowship again, but James 4:8a pointed out how simple it is.
Come near to God and he will come near to you. (James 4:8a, NIV)
When I drew near to God in prayer and Bible study, I found him right where He’d always been, waiting patiently for my attention.
Prayer – Lord God, help us stop running long enough to find you again.
