Nothing strikes more terror in a household than the words, “Hi, I thought I’d come stay awhile. “What a flurry of tidying, dusting, vacuuming and meal planning occurs. What questions come to mind? Do they have a special diet? Are they allergic to any foods? Do they snack in the night? What about the cat? Where will they sleep? Who is willing to give up their bedroom for them?
And all that fuss is just for Aunt Bessie.
Then you get this note from the apostle Paul, who addresses a matter of obedience and THEN-THEN he says he is expecting you to have the guest room ready!
Confident of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I ask. And one thing more: Prepare a guest room for me, because I hope to be restored to you in answer to your prayers. (Philemon 1:21-22, NIV)
Prepare a guest room for Paul, the apostle Paul!!!! Now we dust and vacuum in earnest. Oh, my goodness! And I prayed for that to happen? What was I thinking! Paul in my house!!!!
Paul is coming to our house today by means of the word of God. How well do submit to the cleansing of the Word of God when we hear it?
Prayer – Lord when we hear, help us to really listen and then obey. For Christ. Amen
