Galatians 5:15–But if you bite and devour one another [in partisan strife] be careful that you [and your whole fellowship] are not consumed by one another (AMP).
Our neighbor raises baby chicks. They are cute, fluffy, yellow chirpers but they will turn on one another. It’s easy to spot the one who is on the outs. It is shoved away from the food trough, and elbowed from the water tank. The minute the others sense any weakness in one bird, if our friend doesn’t intervene, that cute chick will be pecked to death by its sweet siblings. Some of us have been in church congregations like that, where church splits occur over foolish things like the color of the sanctuary carpet. There we are, cute, sweet, with God’s spirit in us, each of us wanting his own way, consuming one another and pecking one another to death. Saint Paul says this is not the way of the Spirit (Galatians 1:7).
The cure is found in Galatians 5:16- This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh (KJV).
We have a choice. Love does not devour.
Prayer: Father, what must you and the world think of our unloving behavior toward one another? Forgive us. Show us where to apologize and then how to go forward in love. Amen.
