Contemplation

Did you ever expect that you were one who contemplates?

Do you ever contemplate the world around you through God’s eyes?

Does a tiny blossom by your path cause you to stop, linger, examine its petals one by one?

Does an eagle’s flight stir your emotions and thanks to God for his mighty creation?

Does a rainbow return your mind to that very first rainbow so many centuries ago?

In contemplation, we see more fully the deeper purposes of our God and Saviour.

That is contemplation, the act of looking thoughtfully at something for a long time.

They suddenly recognize that God is a living, personal presence, not a piece of chiseled stone. And when God is personally present, a living Spirit, that old, constricting legislation is recognized as obsolete. We’re free of it! All of us! Nothing between us and God, our faces shining with the brightness of his face. And we are transfigured much like the Messiah, our lives gradually becoming brighter and more beautiful as God enters our lives and we become like him.

(2 Corinthians 3:18, MSG)
