Speaker Eddie Plett says we pray copout prayers all the time. For example, we say Lord, please help me to forgive. Those are copout prayers. We already know that God gives us what we need and we know we are supposed to forgive, so why don’t we just do it?
God says…But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. (Matthew 6:15, NIV)
Or we say Lord, help me to have patience. And God says…Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves withcompassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.(Colossians 3:12, NIV)
Or Lord, if you do________ then I will do _________. And God says… “Don’t bargain with God. Be direct. Ask for what you need. This is not a cat-and-mouse, hide-and-seek game we’re in. (Luke 11:10, MSG)
If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”(Genesis 4:7, NIV)
Prayer- Lord, we are ashamed of our copout prayers and our disobedience. Forgive us, God. Amen.
