Covered

The only really true look we get at ourselves, the only time of day we really look at ourselves is that first awful glimpse in the mirror when our eyes are still squinty without the first slug of coffee. It is then we see ourselves before the shower, the makeup, or the clothes covering. Have we ever really thanked God enough for the covering of clothes?

I can’t help thinking about Psalm 139:14, NIV, especially first thing in the morning.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

And how do we treat that truth in light of our real selves? Many of us should reword the verse. We are no longer fearfully and wonderfully made. Instead, we are fearfully and artificially put together, covered with stuff that saves the world from looking at the real us.

We do that with our insides too, pretending we are something we are not. It does no good you know because the truth is that God is not swayed by makeup, fine fabric or hairspray.

The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”(1 Samuel 16:7b, NIV)

Prayer- Lord, we offer ourselves to you just as we are and say thank you…Amen.
