Devotions by Paddle

That’s an apt name for Pastor Jen Wager’s messages to us every weekday. Since Covid-19, she creates a new space for her Facebook followers. We’ve been everywhere, folks!

Often, she speaks from paddleboard or kayak while her craft bobs in the water. Today she misdirected her board and ended up in the weeds. There are markers on the Rideau but she was out of bounds and thus tangled in greenery. She described the yucky feeling as they wound round her feet.

We have our own yucky greenery and a way to handle it.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:1-2, NIV)

Do you see the comparison?

Let us throw off……………………………………we must make the decision to be free

Throw off what hinders us……………………… that slows us down like tangled weed

What hinders …………….………………hindrances might be ok for others but not for you.

Sin easily entangles………………….  It’s a roaring lion waiting to devour you (Genesis 4:7)

Run with perseverance/endurance………………………don’t give up the fight for freedom

Fixing your eyes on Jesus………………………………. steer in the direction you want go

Do whatever it takes…………………………………………………victory awaits

Prayer-Lord, help us recognize and throw off the weeds of sin in our lives. Amen.
