Do It Anyway

People are illogical, unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway.
If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway.
For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.

This is part of a poem attributed to Mother Theresa but some believe the original version is called “The Paradoxical Commandments” by Dr. Kent M. Keith.

Somehow we think these words are special because a celebrity wrote them. I guess Jesus isn’t famous enough.

But I tell you not to try to get even with a person who has done something to you. When someone slaps your right cheek, turn and let that person slap your other cheek. If someone sues you for your shirt, give up your coat as well. (Matthew 5:39-40, CEV)

You have heard people say, “Love your neighbors and hate your enemies.” But I tell you to love your enemies and pray for anyone who mistreats you. (Matthew 5:43-44, CEV)

Prayer –  Lord, give us the grace to care about others like you ask us to do. Amen
