Don’t Fuss Over Dinner

I was about six years old when I first recognized that I was bigger than my friends. That’s a long time ago, but that topic has consumed my every waking moment (and a few sleeping ones) since then. When I wasn’t concentrating on weight loss, I thought about how I needed to get at it.

I’ve read these scriptures dozens of times but today they really captured my attention.

Luke 12:22a- He continued this subject with his disciples. “Don't fuss about what's on the table at mealtimes (MSG).

Don’t fuss about what’s on the table at mealtimes! Whew! Doesn’t that take a load off? Think about going to a party and not panicking because they serve dessert, with not a stick of celery in sight. Imagine leaving a small scoop of potatoes in the bowl because you are full and leftovers are called leftovers for a reason.

In the Message Bible, this section is titled ‘Steep Yourself in God-Reality.’

What I'm trying to do here is get you to relax, not be so preoccupied with getting so you can respond to God's giving. People who don't know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep yourself in God-reality, God-initiative, and God-provisions. You'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. Don't be afraid of missing out. You're my dearest friends! The Father wants to give you the very kingdom itself.

And the NIV says it this way.

Luke 12:29 -31-And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it.  For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well (NIV).

So let’s seek his kingdom…and let everything else fall into line.

Prayer: Lord, Thanks for reminding us again that you are the answer to every question. Amen.
