Dust

I’m not a fan of cleaning of any kind, but needs must, right? We want our homes to look as nice as possible, don’t we? We don’t want to encourage bugs and allergies and goodness knows what else.

Still, there seems to be a great revolt against cleaning and especially dusting.

‘ Does God have the same attitude toward dust’, I wondered? The Old Testament mentions dust almost 100 times.

The Bible says we are made of dust and will return to dust. (Genesis 3:19b)

Satan/serpents will eat dust all their lives. (Genesis 3:14b)

Dust can become lice or boils under God’s command. (Exodus 8:16, 9:9)

Dust can determine sin! (Numbers 5:17)

Throwing dust on one’s head is a form of repentance. (Joshua 7:6)

The New Testament only uses the word seven times, mostly in this way.

And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. (Matthew 10:14, KJV)

I guess the least we can do is have our house dust-free so that there is none to shake.

Prayer – Lord, you’ve given us so much. Give us the grace to at least take care of it. Amen
