A faithful reader of Everyday Christian.com, writer Patricia Day sent me this message after reading the November 14th devotional.
Have you noticed that some of your devotionals of late might have been written with your present circumstances in mind? Methinks God is at work………Stay warm. Stay safe.
Here is part of that devotional called All Good. It’s a quote from Hudson Taylor.
Envied by some, despised by many, hated by others,
Often blamed for things I never heard of or had nothing to do with,
An innovator on what have become established rules of missionary practice,
An opponent of mighty systems of heathen error and superstition,
Working without precedent in many respects and with few experienced helpers,
Often sick in body as well as perplexed in mind and embarrassed by circumstances—
Had not the Lord been especially gracious to me,
Had not my mind been sustained by the conviction that the work is His
And that He is with me, . . .
I must have fainted or broken down.
But the battle is the Lord’s, and He will conquer.
We may fail — do fail continually — but He never fails. . . .
(Hudson Taylor)
And I find these words even more real as I type away with my left hand and my right is broken and in a sling.
What are your circumstances now? Can you see the hand of God in them?
Morning by morning he dispenses his justice, and every new day he does not fail, yet the unrighteous know no shame. (Zephaniah 3:5b, NIV)
Prayer-Lord, thank you for reminding me personally today, of your unfailing care. Amen.
