ESP

It is long after the Christmas season and I still struggle with getting my eating in better shape. (Notice that I haven’t spent much time on that topic yet this year!) Oh, it’s not that I gained a ton or even that I pig out every day. It is just that I am not perfect.

Why is it that we try so hard to be what we can never be? That is without error, flaw or fault and excellent in every way? We accept our short comings in so many other areas but beat ourselves up in the weight department.

Contrary to our opinion, the Bible actually says that we can be perfect. What? Another meaning for perfect is ‘complete and lacking nothing essential.’ Listen to this!

But let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that you may be [people] perfectly and fully developed [with no defects], lacking in nothing. (James 1:4, AMP)

How is this possible? According to James 1:4, perfection comes through Endurance (never giving up), Steadfastness (unwavering purpose) and Patience (persevering calmly in difficulty.)

God says we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Then let us forge into ESP together so that his perfection is displayed in us. (Philippians 4:13)

Prayer- Lord, though your grace, may we ESP (endurance, steadfastness, patience) toward your perfection. Amen.
