Isaiah 60: 5– you shall see and be radiant and your heart shall thrill and tremble with joy [at the glorious deliverance] and be enlarged; because the abundant wealth of the [Dead] Sea shall be turned to you, unto you shall the nations come with their treasures (AMP).
Our tour group was encouraged to go ‘swimming’ in Israel’s thick Dead Sea water. However, we were warned to shower immediately following our dip. One chap refused to do so. He’d heard stories of the healing powers of the waters. He wanted his money’s worth. He floated on his back for an hour or more in the murky stuff. (Yes, it is true! You cannot sink in the Dead Sea!) His share of the Dead Sea became visible as great salt clumps formed and hung on the back of his head for the next 24 hours! And gradually, over the next few days, that salt-licked hair turned from gray to deep, dark black.
Scholars believed that Isaiah couldn’t possibly be talking about the Dead Sea, until its mineral wealth was discovered in 1935.
“One is almost staggered by the computed wealth of the chemical salts of the Dead Sea. It is estimated that the potential value of the potash, bromine and other chemical salts of its waters is four times the wealth of the United States” (G.T.B. Davis-Rebuilding Palestine).
Prayer: Father God, once more you remind us of the power, truth and wisdom of your word. Help us believe every part of it today. Amen.
