Every Day Should Be a National Day of Prayer

Today, millions of Americans will participate in National Day of Prayer events throughout the country. The National Day of Prayer Web site offers lots of ways you can participate:

1) Find an event in your area. The NDP Web site offers a listing of thousands of events planned across the country. In addition, your church may be conducting a special prayer service that is not listed in the NDP database.

2) Watch the live webcast today from 9 a.m. to noon EDT or the Hollywood-themed webcast Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. PDT.

3) Set aside some quiet time alone today to pray for our nation and its leaders.

NDP organizers hope today is just the beginning of a deeper prayer movement across the country. Christians are encouraged to adopt a pastor, local politician, media personality or other leader and regularly pray for them. As part of this effort, the NDP Task Force has set up an Adopt-A-Leader Web site to assist.

Additionally, Christians are encouraged to pray regularly for seven institutions–government, military, media, business, education, church and family–and their leaders. Details about this “7 x 7” prayer effort as well as specific prayer points for each institution are available on the NDP Web site.

With a committment to pray for these areas on a regular basis, there is no reason why Christians can’t come together to make every day a national day of prayer–whether it is officially recognized or not.
