Experience

Experience teaches us that spring is coming no matter how much snow is still on the ground. A two-year-old might think that they are stuck in their bulky snow suit for the rest of their lives. We know better because we have experienced spring a few times.

Hard times are like that. The first time we face financial shortage we bite our nails and worry ourselves sick. But after a few of those, we learn to watch our pennies a bit closer, get a second job or whatever helps the crisis end.

As newlyweds, our first disagreement with our spouse is painful beyond end. Then we both grow up a little and develop better ways to cope than yelling at one another.

That’s the same kind of experience we gain as we continue our relationship with Jesus.

Then Jesus turned to the Jews who had claimed to believe in him. “If you stick with this, living out what I tell you, you are my disciples for sure. Then you will experience for yourselves the truth, and the truth will free you.” (John 8:31-32, MSG)

Prayer – Lord, remind us to remember what we’ve learned and experienced with you. Amen
