Family Day

Well every day should be family day but officially we celebrate it on the third Monday of February, but not everywhere. Are you confused yet? Sometimes we Canadians are too.

So far British Columbia celebrates on the second Monday, while Ontario, Alberta and Saskatchewan celebrate on the third Monday. Quebec celebrates Louis Riel Day instead and the other provinces don’t celebrate at all! Ontario’s Family Day almost became Sir John A. Macdonald Day in honour of our first Prime Minister.

Does that make it any less a holiday? What is Family Day anyway? Well here in Ontario, lots of people get the day off and some stores and businesses are closed. Families are supposed to hang out together.

Perhaps you don’t have an official Family Day where you are, but that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate it.

For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, “Peace be within you.”(Psalm 122:8, NIV)

Prayer – Thank you God, for our families and everything they mean to us. Amen
