Feet

I bravely watch some medical TV shows without a qualm, in spite of horrified friends telling me that they are gross. But I have to tell you the foot doctor programs have me a bit queasy. And now also the continuous virus news!

What is it about bad feet that send us quivering to the other room?

Is it that feet support our whole body and maintain our balance when we are standing or walking?

Or is it that a foot or feet measure the distance from one point to another, our honesty if you will?

Why are we ashamed of such a vital part of our body? We hope no one ever makes us take part in a foot washing session at church…and yet…

Foot washing is part of our Easter celebration; generally held on the Thursday before Good Friday. You see, Jesus washed his disciples’ feet. This demonstrated his servant hood and therefore our requirement to go and do likewise!

Then He (Jesus) poured water into the washbasin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the [servant’s] towel with which He was girded. (John 13:5, AMPC)

Not Peter!!! Yes, Peter protested loudly about Christ washing feet.

When He came to Simon Peter, [Peter] said to Him, Lord, are my feet to be washed by you? [Is it for you to wash my feet?] Peter said to Him, You shall never wash my feet! Jesus answered him, unless I wash you, you have no part with (in) me [you have no share in companionship with me]. (John 13:6, 8, AMPC)

Would we protest as loudly if it were Jesus washing our feet and not an elder or pastor of our church? Or someone asked us to take groceries to a shut –in? Or…; or…; or…?

What we can do to serve others in this stressful time?

Prayer- Lord I don’t know if I would settle for foot washing. Help me accept what you have for me, whether it is as washer or washed. As like Christ. Amen.
