Fertilized

“The gardener said, ‘Let’s give it another year. I’ll dig around it and fertilize, and maybe it will produce next year; if it doesn’t, then chop it down.’”(Luke 13:8, 9 MSG)

That tree had already refused to co-operate with its purpose for three years, the same length of time that Jesus ministered here on earth. The vinedresser begged the owner for more time to bring it to its senses. That is the grace of God.

The vinedresser planned to dig around the tree’s roots (ouch!), and put stinky stuff on it. (Eeeeyew!) That fig tree needed to get its act together….and the vinedresser intended to help.

God wants us to bear fruit. To that purpose, he digs at our roots and fertilizes us with a few stinky things.

Prayer – Lord, dig in some fertilizing manure around our roots, in the places we need it most. Amen
