In North America we very seldom buy because we need. We buy because we want. We want because we are dissatisfied with what we have. We are dissatisfied because someone told us there was something more fashionable, shinier or with new attachments. So we buy the new thing, discard the old and then repeat the process with another item.
In order to stay in business, media has to make us want the stuff they sell. Logically they should not be able to make us disregard common sense, but they do. That is why my friend has five perfectly good vehicle tracking devices (GPS) in her basement. That is why we throw out perfectly good clothes because some one told us they are out of style.
May we be more like Paul who said this.
Actually, I don’t have a sense of needing anything personally. I’ve learned by now to be quite content whatever my circumstances. I’m just as happy with little as with much, with much as with little.
