Flued In

No, I haven’t been cleaning my chimney. Rather I have been sick with- you guessed it- the FLU. Thank God for the flu shot I had earlier. As flu goes, I’ve had a mild dose of it.

Still, it took me out of the running of my life for a few days. And do you know what? I worried at first about who would take my place, fulfill my duties, and keep the world running. And do you know what? Everybody did. The minor hole I left in my world filled quite easily.

Someone took my classes for me and someone delivered parcels and another someone bought groceries on my behalf. Whew. And here I thought I was indispensable.

Nothing collapsed because of my absence, absolutely nothing. In fact, in some ways, other people did ‘my stuff’ better than I would have.

Should I feel depressed and forlorn because of these facts; not at all. It is good to know that in spite of us the world will go on.

I’ve recovered now. Thank you for your notes and emails (which I know you would have sent if you knew of my illness!)

Consider these truths. We do fill a place in society, hopefully for the better but not for eternity.

Only God does that and aren’t we grateful.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.(Ecclesiastes 3:11, NIV)

Prayer- God, thank you that you are with us, now and forever. Amen.
