Job’s friends sometimes get a raw deal from the pulpit. Their words might have been poorly chosen but when they heard of all that had happened to their friend Job, they came over right away. (Job 2:11) Where were all his other friends?
While they did have a lot to say about something they knew little about, at some point they knew enough to be quiet. (Job 32:15)
Note that while they irritated Job in some ways, he didn’t send them away. A friend is someone you want with you when you feel like being alone because it’s not the path you travel, but who travels with you, that counts. After all, good friends hear what you don’t say.
Jesus valued his friends.
Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. [They were His dear friends, and He held them in loving esteem.] (John 11:5, AMP)
What kind of friends are we?
Prayer – Father, help us reach out to our friends, especially those who really need us today. Amen
