Did you get some pretty baubles for Christmas; maybe an engagement ring or a nice strand of pearls? Hopefully you didn’t just toss them in a drawer when you took them off. They are supposed to be cared for and cleaned regularly. Apparently the poor stuff is sprayed from both sides. First of all our perfumes and hairspray attack them from the outside and then our nasty skin oils and secretions spray it from the other side.
All gems need different care, depending on the type. Pearls may need to be restrung. There are over-the-counter cleaners and even machines to do this type of cleaning, or you can just take them to a professional.
Those jewels are just like our salvation. Yes, we are forgiven. Yes, we are made new in Christ. Yes indeed, but every now and then we falter and fail, and that’s when we need to take our problems to God for restringing, cleaning, and a good dose of remembering who we are in Christ.
Therefore let us go on and get past the elementary stage in the teachings and doctrine of Christ (the Messiah), advancing steadily toward the completeness and perfection that belong to spiritual maturity. Let us not again be laying the foundation of repentance and abandonment of dead works (dead formalism) and of the faith [by which you turned] to God. (Hebrews 6:1, AMP)
Prayer – Father, show us where we’ve lost our sparkle and help us be bright again, for you. Amen
