Granny’s Tea Leaves

People came from all over to have my Granny read their tea leaves. We took her word as Gospel.

Then Granny found Jesus and she stopped reading tea leaves. No matter how we begged, she refused.

Many of us still yearn for truth that is out side of God’s word. We check out ‘our signs’ in the newspaper, we want to talk to the dead. (This makes me laugh. We often didn’t want to talk to those same people when they were alive!)

Do you know that God has opinions on these ‘truth options?’  The truth is that we already know the right thing to do; we just want confirmation to do the wrong thing.

Even Saul fell prey to this. In 1Samuel 28:7 he demanded the services of a medium, a seer if you will. He demanded to talk to Samuel who told him exactly the same thing. (1 Samuel 28:17…)

Samuel said- “God has done exactly what he told you through me.”  So you see Saul already knew the truth. He just wanted to change it.

Here is some truth for you.

When people tell you, “Try out the fortune tellers. Consult the spiritualists. Why not tap into the spirit-world, get in touch with the dead?”
Tell them, “No, we’re going to study the Scriptures.”

People who try the other ways get nowhere—a dead end! Frustrated and famished, they try one thing after another.
When nothing works out they get angry, cursing first this god and then that one, Looking this way and that, up, down, and sideways—and seeing nothing,

A blank wall, an empty hole. They end up in the dark with nothing.(Isaiah 8:19-22, MSG)

Prayer- Lord it is so tempting to try to find out these things for ourselves, but when we listen closely to you, we already know the truth and what to do in the midst of it. Amen.
