Gravity Woes

I never thought much about gravity until I slipped on a patch of ice and broke a bone. That sudden fall explained gravity more clearly than any science lesson.

The separation in my arm bones added extra pain to the actual break. That ended when a kindly doctor pushed those bone ends together and let the cast take on the weight of gravity.

And did gravity ever take hold? At my weigh-in class, the scale groaned at the extra weight. Gravity affects everything about us, but we don’t pay attention until it strikes home in such a forceful manner.

God waits at our elbow, waiting for us to recognize him, but like gravity, we don’t pay attention until he gets our attention in a deeper way.

How is God calling to your ears this moment? Are you ready and willing or with it takes a deeper blow to open them up?

Again, the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called” Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.” A third time the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”

Eli realized that the Lord was calling. He said, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.”  The Lord called as before. Samuel!”  Then Samuel said, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.”

(1 Samuel 3:6-10, NIV)
