Guard Duty

2 Timothy 1:11-14: For this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher and for this reason I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know that the one in whom I have put my trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard until that day what I have entrusted to him. Hold to the standard of sound teaching that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. Guard the good treasure entrusted to you, with the help of the Holy Spirit living in us. (LB)

In this day of prepasted wallpapers, most people don’t remember how our grandparents had to mix their own paste and apply it by hand to the paper. The package logo displayed two pieces of paper glued together. An elephant was chained to each paper and both elephants were hauling for all they were worth. The two-way bond held firm.

Stick To It

Adhere and trust, rely on. Be positively persuaded.
He’s guarding all there is to guard. The debt? Jesus paid it.
In turn we guard and keep, with all the greatest care,
Most precious, excellent truth as Holy Spirit meets us there.

Prayer: Dearest Father God, thanks for guarding everything that concerns us. In turn, we thank You for trusting us enough to guard the holy truth of the Gospel. For Jesus’sake. Amen.
