I thought I’d seen the last of the things but a quick Google of ‘men’s garters’ and I found a zillion places that still sell them. My grandpa, and maybe yours too, all wore ‘garter belts’ on their socks. Gramps wore his just below the knee and they hooked onto the top of the sock to prevent it from sliding down. It sounds funny to us, but elastic wasn’t what it is today, even though it was used in clothing as early as 1820.
Our elastic sometimes gives out too. We get stretched beyond what we think we can put up with… and then, voila! We find God there holding us from snapping in the wrong direction.
Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore have I set my face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame. (Isaiah 50:7, NIV)
Prayer- Father God, thank you for never letting us go. Amen
