How often have we prayed for something, knowing full well that it did not agree with God’s Word? Or prayed, not realizing we were out of God’s will, because we didn’t read what the Bible said about it?
Listening to God and doing what He says is definitely not the same thing as trying to corral God into a place where He does what we want.
My Dad had a fierce, powerful bull that he couldn’t trust one bit. He kept it chained and that heavy chain hooked through a ring in its nose. One jerk of the chain the bull went to its knees.
Is this how we treat God? Consider the foolishness of that.
God will not be herded.
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. (James 1:22)
If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land. (Isaiah 1:19)
“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? (Luke 6:46)
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 7:21)
But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” ( Luke 11:28)
