Holiday Leftovers

No, I am not talking of turkey bones and pie crust, but instead the angst we brought into the new year. You know exactly what I mean, the leftover unforgiveness, the failures of the past year, folks you hold a grudge against, money issues and lost relationships.

This is the new year. We have already broken our useless new year resolutions. It is time to consider why and then deal with them.

The stuff we drag with us weighs us down. If our heads are bowed in defeat and pain and a dozen other things, we can’t look forward to or plan for the new year.

Let go of trying to hold it all together on your own. Forget the fact that your holiday missed the mark or that you are physically or mentally drained. If you are feeling homesick, visit or make a phone call to your beloved family.  Worrying about the future is a great waste because that gets us nothing but joylessness.

I could go on, but you know exactly what I mean.  Did you know that there are 365 ‘Do Not Fear’ verses in the Bible? That is one for every day of the year. Release your past fears and threats and heartaches, by releasing all of that to God; the God who loves you and cares for you, and knows your future…

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)
