At one time, Chris, the Australian merino sheep must have thought it quite exciting to be on his own, escaped from the flock. Oh yes, now he wasn’t accountable. He could do as he liked. No shearing for him! He was FREE!!!
But the years passed and his fleece continued to grow…and grow… and grow. By the time he was discovered, Chris was weighted down with about 40 kilograms (89 pounds) of wool. That’s like being wrapped in thirty woollen sweaters. That fleece doubled Chris’s body weight. It pulled at his skin and even caused open sores. His wool was so matted and dirty that it had to be discarded.
If Chris had been shorn on a yearly basis, his wool would have weighed about 5 kilograms or 11 pounds.
Now dear Chris-tian… how much fleece are you dragging around? How hard are you trying to avoid discipline, obedience and accountability? By the time you finally give that wool up, it will have caused you and yours great harm.
Samuel said, “Has the Lord as great a delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices As in obedience to the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed [is better] than the fat of rams. (1 Samuel 15:22, AMP)
Prayer – Lord, give us the courage to face our sins and our troubles today instead of pretending they might go away. Amen
