How To Stop The Religious War

The race war has been put on the back burner as the religious war heats up.  It has been absolutely amazing — and sad at the same time — to see such hate from all sides.  I don’t expect hate to come from anyone, but I most certainly don’t expect it to come from professing Christians.

Bible believers understand the command to go out into all the world and preach the Good News.  It doesn’t say to go out into all the world and condemn others for their religious beliefs, or to hate them or to disrespect them by burning what they consider to be their holy books.

How do you win converts that way?  How do you show the love of Christ?  Is it our place to judge?  The Bible teaches that we are not to judge the world, that is God’s job.  We are to be the hands and feet of Jesus.  That means we are to extend His love to others.

Can you imagine Jesus standing before a bonfire, tossing in the holy books of other religions?  I can’t.  I think sometimes we get so stirred up in the fervor and heat of the moment that we lose our senses.

Perhaps we need to take a step back, turn off the news (since the media really knows how to fuel things) and get back to the basics of the four gospels.  Read how Jesus dealt with people.  Hear His message.  What is He speaking to us as believers?  How do you win someone by hating them?

I think most of us can agree that if someone comes at us with anger and accusations we are going to recoil.  We are going to become defensive.  We won’t be ready to settle matters with that kind of attack.  However if someone comes to us in love and speaks with love, we are more likely to hear them out.

The religious war can be stopped.  Perhaps it is just time that we silence our mouths and instead, get on our knees and pray.
