Humility

Just been to the big city and waited in lines for everything from traffic to food.  I got a little testy. Well, don’t you too? After all, we have schedules, places to go and things to do. While I was not at my best, others were downright impatient and rude. They butted in line, made illegal u-turns and fumed for all to hear.

I judged them haughtily for after all, I (mostly) only fumed inwardly while they sputtered visibly and audibly. Then the Lord mentioned ‘humility’ to me.

Who knew that humility meant modesty, respectfulness, self-effacement, unassuming nature and even meekness? Its opposite is arrogance (conceit, pride, superiority, self-importance).

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. (Philippians 2:5-8, KJV)

Humility is not thinking less of ourselves, it is thinking of ourselves less.–C. S. Lewis

Prayer- Sigh. Sorry, Lord. Time for more repenting!  For Christ, who died in humility for each of us. Amen.
