If I were a Carpenter

Do you remember that song? If I were a carpenter …I would… and it goes on into a half dozen occupations. Think about it, friends. If I were a…BUT you are not! What are you now and what do you promise me out of the who and what you are?

Boyfriend says “I will love you forever, till the seas run dry. I will love you until the sun never shines. I will do all within my power to satisfy your every need.”

Girlfriend says “Would you mind getting my sweater off the porch, please?

Boyfriend says “You are closer to the porch than I am.

Anyone can promise big things, but will they deliver on the little ones, where it really counts? Christ is the one and only carpenter who keeps all his promises to us.

Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

(2 Peter 1:4, NIV)

For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so, through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.

(2 Corinthians 1:20, NIV)

Who is getting your sweater?
