Just Like Peter

What if your life changes suddenly? What if something happens that you can’t control? What if there is a sudden death, an accident, a financial crisis? What will you do? How will you cope?
Ah yes, you say you will trust Jesus and hopefully you will, eventually. But what if it’s some little thing? What if the car breaks down? You get a speeding ticket or its raining on the day you planned for your wedding? What then? It’s in those times that we find out what we are really made of. Are we full of Jesus or full of ourselves?

Will it be all about us? Will our complaints sound like this? What will I do? I deserve better. Why is happening? I don’t get it? Where is God? Why isn’t my life better? Why did God allow this? God is supposed to be a good God. This is not good for me.

Is it all about us?

Sometimes that is our first response. Oh yes, be truthful. I am not the only one in this boat. Our first response is to try and save our own skin. Look at Peter the night of the crucifixion.

Then Peter began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, I do not even know the Man! And at that moment a rooster crowed. (Matthew 26:74, AMP)

We act all noble about that now. Why we wouldn’t ever turn our back on Jesus! He needed Peter then and where was Peter? Pretending he didn’t know Jesus at all! Huh. That would never be me.

Stop kidding yourself. We do it a dozen times a day, everyday. And yet, he forgives us and bids us come to him… again.

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. (Matthew 11:28a, AMP)

Prayer – Father, thank you for the forgiveness you offer and the common sense to choose it. In Christ. Amen
